
History: Fertility dolls are traditionally from the Ashanti community of Ghana; the native name for the fertility dolls is “Akua’ba’’. Traditionally, the dolls were believed to bring good luck to women trying to conceive; as well as good health and joy to expectant mothers. The women would carry the dolls and according to the Ashanti mythology, the bearer of these dolls would give birth to beautiful and healthy children.
